The chateau is built on a hill at the "Vallée des Roses", which is the French name for the valley of the roses. This architectural monument is surrounded by a park, the work of the famous Joseph Carlet. The park area of Castle was also created with money from the Russian entrepreneur Pavel von Dervis. Today, Château Valrose is home to one of the campuses of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis.
The grounds of the Valrose estate include a large park area with fountains, a pond, sculptures, and numerous exotic plants. There are two chateaux, one large and one small, both in a Gothic style. Valrose is famous for its huge concert hall, which seats almost 400 people.
Valrose
Valrose Сastle is located in the north of Nice
The area on which the château and park stand is situated at the intersection of two avenues: Vallroz and Joseph Valot. The property is located between the two quarters of Cimiez and Liberation. Not far from the Castle neighbourhood are the Matisse Museum, the Chagall Museum and the Church of St Joan of Arc.

About the Castle
Construction of the Château de Valrose took place between 1867 and 1870. The buildings are in the Neo-Gothic style, with some Italian and French Renaissance influences. The castle is built of tuff, the roof is covered with tile with decorative "fish scales" masonry. Different ornamental elements, Tudor arch, vases, lanterns - are used in the exterior of the building. The family coat of arms of Baron von Dervis is displayed above the entrance to the manor and in the rooms.
The interiors of the Castle are decorated with frescos, crystal chandeliers, columns and balustrades with Gothic ornaments, antique paintings, moldings, marble and bronze items. The interior of the building is in the Rococo style. The concert halls are decorated with gilding. There are arched windows in the walls of the castle. Some rooms in the manor are decorated with pilasters and cherubs.

Valrose Park in Nice
The Valrose Park is a favourite destination for Nice residents and tourists. It is home to rare plant species: dozens of shrubs, several thousand species of herbs and trees. The park is home to many birds. There is an artificial cave, fountains and sculptures, a pond with bridges.
There are English and French style gardens tucked away in the park. An olive grove nestled gracefully in the parkland of Valros. Pines and cedars, cypresses and laurels, birches, oaks, acacias, ash trees, eucalyptus and many other rare species grow here. Valrose Park is open 24 hours a day.
Entrance to the park is free to all visitors. Getting inside the castle is more difficult. It is now the campus of the University of Nice and visits to the palaces need to be arranged in advance with the administration. It is also possible to visit the château on the open day of the institution.
