Cruising yacht in Monaco: which yacht to choose for your first charter?

To begin with, let's clarify that there are two types of cruise yacht charter:

  • Crewed charter is charter with skipper or crew (captain, chef, stewardess).
  • Bareboat charter is yacht charter without crew.

In the first case you take a cruising yacht which is fully prepared and ready to cruise the coastal waters for several days. You'll have a chef on board, an assistant (stewardess) and a professional skipper. You can bring as many guests as this boat has room for. Likewise, you will also be able to fully enjoy your cruise without the stress of sailing.

It is worth pointing out that charters are usually limited to the services of a skipper. In such a situation, the cruise will be less comfortable as you will have to look for frequent anchorages, wasting time in restaurants for lunch and dinner. Moreover, you should factor the cost of anchorages into your cruise budget.

With a Bareboat charter, you plan the itinerary yourself, are fully responsible for the condition of the yacht and must return it to base strictly on the date specified in the charter contract. Only people with a certain type of license (skipper license) for yacht operation are allowed to take yachts out on Bareboat charter.

Crewed cruise yachts are chartered by people who do not hold a suitable skipper's license and wish to enjoy their time without the hassle and responsibility of steering a yacht in any way.

Let's look at a few important points you should be aware of when choosing your first charter.

Select a new cruising yacht or an older one in Monaco?

Selecting a new or slightly older yacht is a matter of taste and budget. Often yachts from the 2000s are still available on charter from some charter companies for cruises. And they may look attractive from the outside. But they don't compare to the comfort of a modern yacht, which is well-equipped and has all the amenities of a perfect 5-star hotel.

The Signature Sailing Charter 2021 and 2022 cruising yachts with all the comforts of home are perfect examples:

  • Signature Concept 2021
  • Signature Vision 2022

On the new crewed cruise yacht, a multi-day trip around the Côte d'Azur, specifically around the Monaco seas, will be much more comfortable. 4 or 5 new great cabins with showers and toilets, a stylish design, a kitchen, a sunbathing deck and plenty of stable space on board the 16m yacht.
